Waste auditing

We offer schools support and guidance on reducing waste, improving recycling facilities and inspiring students to take action on environmental issues at school, at home and in the community.

Our approach

We aim to:

  • raise awareness of the waste services run by local authorities and the challenges they face
  • assist schools and surrounding communities so they comply with local targets
  • promote the 3Rs – reduce, reuse, recycle – in school
  • support schools in becoming sustainable and achieving eco schools status.

Our work

Our interactive assemblies are tailored for KS1 and KS2 students. They focus on resource use efficiency issues, including waste management, recycling and food waste prevention. With the use of props and audience participation we highlight the problems and creative solutions.

We run waste audit workshops to assess how much waste and recycling schools produce, what kind of things they throw away, and whether recycling and waste bins contain the correct materials. This establishes a baseline, from which they can create an action plan, measure progress and identify areas for further improvement.

We also organise consultation meetings with school management teams, teachers and staff, to advise and support them in implementing their environmental action plans and policies. This helps to build school-wide ownership of their environmental performance.
