Schools engagement
Our education programmes help schools address the most important environmental and social challenges of our time.
Waste Watch’s education work builds the knowledge, skills and values that enable young people, parents and staff to participate in building a just, fair and green society.
From interactive theatre shows to peer learning programmes, we ensure the learning experiences we provide are fun and stimulating. We also offer a range of free teaching and learning resources.
Our approach
Schools play a unique role in community life. By promoting ‘learning for sustainability’, we build pupils’ understanding of the complex inner workings of their surroundings. We support them in taking actions that improve their local environment and contribute to vibrant communities.
We advocate a ‘learn – act – reflect’ approach that delivers continuous improvement.
Our achievements
Over the past twenty years we have:
- reached over two million pupils across the UK;
- trained hundreds of school staff and education professionals;
- enabled countless volunteers to champion sustainability; and
- brought about real, measurable improvements in environmental performance.
National expert
The success of our programmes has established us as a national expert in environmental education; a reputation we continue to build on by developing new models of good practice and exemplars in teaching and learning.
We also aim to broaden the education sector’s understanding of the role of formal education within the global context of sustainable development.
And we combine research with the findings of our own practical work to build an evidence base for influencing policy and decision-making; from the school to national level.
