Reconnecting people with food

Over the past 50 years we have become more and more disconnected from the food we eat.

We now live in a global food system. Where and how our food is grown, how much money growers receive, what happens to it along the supply chain and the environmental impact of food is largely invisible.

The physical and emotional separation between us and our food has led to it being viewed as an expendable commodity. This, in turn, has resulted in an unsustainable food system across the supply chain.

People are also finding it harder to make informed decisions about what they buy, eat and throw away.

Our approach

We work in the community to encourage more a sustainable approach to food. This involves:

  • understanding different approaches to reconnecting people with food and how this influences behaviour
  • working in partnership with the national Love Food Hate Waste campaign
  • helping volunteers and groups to lead their community in making food more sustainable.

Our work

Revaluing food for the future is a new project. Through practical experiences, such as growing, cooking and celebrating food, we are helping people change the way they understand, value, buy, use and dispose of food. In so doing, we show how this can bring personal, social and environmental benefits, such as:

  • more ethical consumerism;
  • healthier diets and lifestyles;
  • less food waste; and
  • financial savings.
