Community engagement
Whatever it is that binds people together as a community, we want to support them to take action and inspire others to live sustainably.
The Big Society is not a new concept – communities have always been coming together, providing services, volunteering and caring for one another to improve local life.
In recent years, the UK has seen an explosion in local environmental activities by community groups such as Transition Towns.
We work with a broad set of communities including individual volunteers, local neighbourhoods, community groups, workplaces, and community buildings, such as hospitals.
In partnership, we explore with communities how our values, identities and skills can best be nurtured and supported to change the way we live.
Our work with communities includes:
- building capacity and enabling people to improve their own communities
- developing people’s life skills so they can live more sustainably
- reconnecting people with food to value local, healthy and sustainably-sourced food
- working face to face at a grassroots level – listening, sharing and bringing communities together to find solutions
- advocating for support to help communities take steps to waste less and live more
