Clanfield Scout Group
We are the 1st Clanfield Scouts Group based in Hampshire.
In 2006, our wooden scout headquarters was burned down by vandals. After four years of hard fundraising the new brick and block building has finally been re-built. But this time around we’ve tried to make it as environmentally-friendly as possible.
The new building is heated by a ground source heat pump and we have a rainwater harvesting system for flushing the toilets.
We also received a grant which enabled us to finish off the building with two solar panels – one for generating electricity and the other for heating the water. Vision panels have also been installed to monitor the effectiveness of this eco technology.
The paddock has also been restored to continue scouting activities and community outdoor activities, and it is hoped that this area and the indoor disabled facilities will encourage the use of the building and grounds for people with special needs.
The contractor installing the environmental items has used our new headquarters as his flagship project in an effort to encourage more people to follow our example.
We’ve just moved in and it now feels like it was all very worthwhile.
