TK Maxx

The issue: TK Maxx is looking to reduce its carbon footprint - one aspect of this is reducing the amount of waste they produce.

The challenge: TK Maxx asked Waste Watch to investigate what materials were being thrown away and what was being recycled; and to recommend how waste could be effectively reduced throughout the business.

Our approach: Waste Watch audited two stores, Head Office and a depot and looked at waste and recycling systems. We surveyed a cross section of staff to find out their attitudes and behaviours around waste and recycling at work.

The results: Waste Watch made easy to implement recommendations for TK Maxx to improve back-of-store and Head Office recycling facilities, which has subsequently resulted in a 50% reduction in paper waste. We reported back that 79% of staff surveyed wanted TK Maxx to implement environmental measures to help address climate change. Waste Watch also prepared communications materials for TK Maxx managers to inform staff about rolling out the new environmental initiatives to staff across the UK, including their campaign to phase out all carrier bags.

"We have had great success with our increased recycling facilities and have reduced our paper waste by a further 50% which is great news."
