Waste Watch backs Waste Summit 2008
11 February 2008
Materials Recycling Week and New Civil Engineer have joined forces to stage the Waste Summit 2008.
The conference is an ideal forum for those responsible for waste treatment and disposal to meet the engineers and contractors who will build the necessary infrastructure, and for the construction industry to secure the support it requires from waste management professionals.
Organisers have gathered leading thinkers in engineering, construction, waste management and government to create a platform for discussion around rethinking our approach to waste and resource management. The event will feature guest speaker Roy Hathaway, head of Defra’s Waste Management Division, as well as hands-on case studies, discussion and networking opportunities.
Antony Oliver, Editor of New Civil Engineer says, "The UK is facing a mammoth waste problem. The civil engineering and construction communities have a major role to play, both in the design and construction of recycling and processing plants, and driving major changes in the way we manage construction waste."
Escalating landfill taxes, revised national policy and the need to curb carbon emissions underpin the need for cross-industry co-operation.
